The Box

Today is Boxing Day, and so I thought it's appropriate to tell you the story about the box.

2012_08_27 EMMABUSTER 001
Once upon a time when Buster first came to his furever home, he was a tiny bit. Big sister Emma was already full grown and could jump up to the top of the drawers and cabinets where she would stay perched and from where she would hiss at Buster. Little furboy looked pitiful in his helpless state.

Because of pity, we decided to give Buster a box for his hiding place. True to his nature, the box also contained his toys. He would carry his toys inside his box, where they would remain until today, can you see them?

However, Buster grew up too fast. Pretty soon he couldn't fit into his box. Yet we kept the box inside the room. Often he would laze about the top of the box.

2012_08_27 EMMABUSTER 003

It is also Emma's favorite spot to oversee my morning ministrations before going to work.

2012_11_12 052

In the end, the box became Emma's sanctuary from Buster's constant nagging. Buster could only look and wait for Emma to come out.

Happy New Year everyfurry. Hope the New Year brings all of us peace and prosperity.

BTW, Emma has another vet appointment this weekend. We are hoping that things would still go fine, but she's not healing as well as we hoped. Please continue to purr for my darling furbaby. Thank you.

Mini Update

2012_07_21 buster 020

Hello Kitties!

I'm feeling so much better this week. Mama and Papa are equally feeling good about not seeing any more pee in the couch ALL WEEK! Imagine that! I see mama bang her head on the wall on more than one occasion this week regretting that she didn't pick up on my distress signal - i.e. peeing on the couch - quickly.

Anyway, I know the peeps bury my antibiotics in a mound of delicious tuna 2x a day. I eat with gusto even though I know the bitter pill is there, but it's for my own good and because of that I am peeing even better. Mama is even noticing I've been eating on my bowl on top of papa's dresser. It's weird kitties, but we have bowls all over the house.

I heard mama tell papa that she found a regular vet for me. In the past, I've been seeing the vets at Banfield which is inside the PetSmart store, but the peeps are not really happy with the service and the care they give out there so she Yelped and Googled her way into searching for the vet for me. Hopefully, this one that I'm going to see on Caturday is loving and caring and would have my best interest at heart.

Paws crossed that I don't need surgery for the stones that the emergency hospital vet told me I have. Please keep purring for me.

Head butts y'all!

Happy & Sad

I, catmama, did promise that it's back to regular blogging schedule after our return, but I didn't foresee the busyness of the Holiday season + the catching up the work that piled up during our vacation, a combination so potent it will leave one exhausted to blog.

Anyway, the kitties and I are back, hopefully blogging on a more frequent basis.

First off, better late than never, we would like to thank Brian and the sister kitties at BRIAN'S HOME for the book they sent us.

2012_12_06 234

The package surprised Catgrandma who was babysitting the kitties. She could never understand how kitties get mail :)

2012_12_06 236

The beautiful book that was inside the package. Truthfully kitties, I have only skimmed through the pages and after the excitement of the Holidays, I will tackle this book.

Thank you again, BRIAN'S HOME. We are very appreciative.

Flirty Emma

And now for the somewhat sad news........we had to take Emma to an emergency pet hospital on Sunday night because we were worried she had UTI. Turned out she had. Her pee volume was going down and she had started peeing all over the sofa. To discourage this behaviour, we covered the sofa (leather) with newspapers because another kitty daddy told us that cats don't like crunchy noisy items when they step on them. Unfortunately this did not discourage Emma at all. She continued to pee on the sofa, at one point even in front of me as I was vacuuming the living room. She was also using the litter boxes in addition to the sofa.

However, on Saturday we saw blood in her urine. The newspaper held onto the bloody urine real well and so we called clinics around the neighborhood, but not one was open, but all the messages and websites for these clinics referred us to this emergency hospital in Berkeley.

That's where we were. Emma as usual was her quiet and calm self. She allowed the vet to touch her, poke her. She meowed only twice, but I kept reassuring her that mama is on her side.

After urinalysis and sonogram, they found her to have stone/s. Not sure. They would like us to go to our regular vet for follow-up. In the meantime, antibiotics were prescribed because she did have an infection.

My baby was suffering and she wasn't telling me!

At the hospital, the tech tried to give her liquid antibiotics, but she didn't like it and fearing this might traumatize her even more in addition to whatever pain she already is experiencing, we asked if they could give us pills.

She will have to take the pills 2x a day for 7 days. We'll try to get her a new vet soonest. Happy to report that when I hid the pill in the tuna she was able to eat the tuna and the pill without detecting the foul taste of the pill. So far so good. No pee on the sofa for a whole day.

We could use some purrs for our flirty Emma dear kitties. When we were in the hospital, there were 3 other kitties who came that were showing the same symptoms as Emma, except Emma was the youngest at 4.5 years. The rest of the kitties that came on Sunday were double digit in age.

Thank you for your purrs. And cat mamas feel free to give me advice about this because I'm basically new at this. Emma is perfectly healthy the entire 2 years that I've had her so I don't have any history to refer to. Thank you.

Oh, Pee Ess....Buster is perfectly fine and healthy, thank cod!

Caturday Morning Ritual

2012_08_27 EMMABUSTER 014
I like Caturday, because it's the day when Papa and I could cuddle in bed in the morning. He doesn't need to rush to work.

2012_08_27 EMMABUSTER 018
But Caturday is not all peace and calm, because Mama doesn't need to go to work either. So she has all the time in the world to introod with boys hang time.

2012_08_27 EMMABUSTER 015
I take revenge by nibbling on the camera strap.

2012_08_27 EMMABUSTER 017
And I givez her the tongue too.

Happy Meow-o-ween Kitties!

IMG_0011

Hello all! How is everyone? Purrfect I suppose. Well, our servant the one with thumbs who can type and answers to the name Mama didn't have time to update this blog last week. She was busy watching the World Series. For my friends overseas who are not aware of this, this is the baseball championship game. Only Canada and USA have teams so we don't know why the use of the word WORLD, shouldn't it be North American Championship Series or something? Of course there are many players in the league from the Latin American countries and Asia and Australia too, so maybe that's why.

Anyway, she's really into the local team, the SF Giants, who by the way won it all this year, so she's really happy.

Don't worry we were not fully ignored the entire October Quest as the Giants marketing ad calls it, we got wonderful belly rubs while she watches the game on tv.

But on Sunday was horrible - at night the Giants bagged the crown, but during the daytime omg!!!!

Two men came to the house with large machines and weird equipment and opened all the vents of the house. They turned on the machine and it made a loud horrible sound. Mama locked Emma and I in the guest bedroom, but the men needed to get into the bedroom too so they can clean the vent. Then Papa locked me in the hallway closet while Emma went under the master bed. One of the men opened the closet door thinking it was another bedroom, and when he did, I was a blur of speed as I ran as fast as I could to get downstairs. What an ugly experience. Good thing cleaning the ducts is only a yearly event.

Needless to say kitties, we were scared to death. Was still shaking in my paws while having tuna for dinner. Even when Mama and Papa watched the game with Uncle Dave I was skittish. Emma was more relaxed and calm and sat in between Mama and Uncle Dave and let him pet her. I think she smelled Uncle Dave's cats scent that's why she was friendly with this new Uncle we have.

So that's what's been happening around here kitties. Last Meow-o-ween I helped Mama hand out candies to little children and I wasn't scaared at all. Mama is hoping I'd behave the same way this year. She said, I'm counting on you Buster to help out with the candies this year! So I better man up and get my act together.

Pawhugs,
Buster

Happy 2nd Gotcha Day Buster!!!!

buster the cat
Can't believe it's only been two years since we got Buster. It feels more like he's always been with us. He's such a character. Very naughty since his kittenhood and persisted up to now. While the rumbling in the house on the surface appears to be Buster's faults, we know that half the time Emma instigates all the chasing and wrestling.

Collagebuster

Reasons why Buster is so adorable:
  • He asks permission to jump into bed in the morning.  He makes a whimpering noise to see if we're awake.  And when we are, the hubby would say, come up Buster we're awake.
  • In the middle of the night, he would go in the middle of us and seek out a hand and he would rub his head, asking the sleeping human head rubs, nope make that demanding head rubs.
  •  He would purposely eat at Emma's plate first before he eats his share - if he is unsupervised.
  • He likes cuddling with catpapa.
  • He meets us at the door every day when we get home, just like a doggie he would roll over and demands a belly rub right there and then.
  • He likes to lick empty bottles of beer.
  • He wouldn't say no to a little lick of empty bowl of ice cream.
  • He was named after our favorite player, SF Giant's catcher (and MVP) Buster Posey.
  • When he misbehaves, he gives himself a timeout.
  • He talks back when he gets blamed for something he didn't do.  We know it, because he gives us his UGLY FACE.

Fright Night

2012_05_24 003

Buster gave us a fright tonite. There we were catmama and catpapa going about our tasks at work for 8 hours thinking the cats were sleeping in bed all day. When catpapa arrived from work at 6 pm (I come in at 7 pm), he had no clue what was about to happen.

He walked up to the front door (we park on the street) and heard meows. The neighborhood is crawling with feral/stray cats, but this meow was distinct. He knew it was Buster's meow. But what he couldn't fathom was how his meow was so loud.

Then coming out of the bushes in front of our house by the windows is Buster. How he got out of the house and how long he's been out no one knows, and Buster is not talking. My husband confided that his heart fell to the ground when he saw Buster coming towards him. We don't know how he got out, but we have a clue.

Buster knows how to open the screen door in the backyard so that's definitely his exit point. This experience obviously shook the poor kitty.

When I came home, my husband told me to ask Buster what he did today. The poor cat meowed his woes to me.

After dinner I stretched out in the couch watching the SF Giants game and Emma automatically jumped into my lap and snoozed. Soon after Buster followed suit. He rarely does this. I think he's traumatized by his experience of the outside world.

We got him from the shelter at 5 months old and I'm guessing he's been there since he was a baby, so he knows nothing about being outside. Poor baby. But he put us through a rollercoaster of emotions.

We are so thankful that he didn't cross the street or got run over by car. There are worse things that could happen. Thank you Ceiling Cat for looking out for Buster.

It's Been A Week?

buster on the throne.

Hello Kitties,

Again our apologies for not visiting all week. Our secretary, Mama, has her plate full. We don't know what that exactly means, but a full plate is always good, right? Especially when we're talking about food plates.

Anyway, she promised to do a better job of fulfilling our visiting duties this week and forward.

We appreciate the visits and we love hearing from you all.

Pawhugs,
Buster (and Emma too)

Guest Doggie

IMGP4019

Mama is fond of seeing doggies and their humans frolicking on the water. She thinks this woofie is very cute. We agree, don't you?
